Okay, maybe I'm just behind on the latest hair trends but have you heard of a Brazilian Blowout? Well, let me educate you:
Salons guarantee after a Brazilian Blowout your hair will be frizz free and manageable for 6-12 weeks, depending on how well you take care of it. Apparently, it is also humidity proof. Here is a before and after picture from the Brazilian Blowout website:
When I first read about these I thought that would be great for this mop I'm growing out. Not that I would be getting one anytime soon but I was thinking it would cost about $100.00. Well, guess how much they cost?
Go ahead. Guess.
$411.00! Now if you don't want the take home treatment that makes it last longer it's "only" $250.00. I wish I had a hidden camera when I heard that number. There I was driving along Texas Avenue in the lovely College Station when this very polite girl in a local salon says, "The full treatment is $411.00." Oh. My. Gosh. Are you comprehending that? Four hundred and eleven dollars....for a hair treatment...that doesn't last forever.
Needless to say, I won't be getting one. I think I'll just stick with my flat iron.

Hair Affair
So I've been growing my hair out for the charity Beautiful Lengths. I have two more inches to go before I make the big chop! Man, am I ready! I had a dream the other night I got my hair cut really short just to make an eight inch ponytail. I was thinking about having a contest on this blog for my followers to pick my haircut but then that scared me because what if you picked something I didn't really like? Then I thought about just asking the stylist to tell me what they suggest. But then that scared me too.
I have only done that one other time in my life and I turned out with the best hair cut ever but it couldn't be duplicated. When I went back to get trimmed the stylist that cut it had to leave for an emergency so this other guy cut my hair and I didn't like it AT ALL!
I'm hoping I will be able to get my hair cut by the end of the year! Don't worry I'll let you all know when I cut it off!
So the saga of hair growth continues...

Hair Update
Regular readers will know that I am growing my hair out to donate it to Beautiful Lengths. Beautiful Lengths is a charity run by Pantene that makes wigs for American Cancer Society wig banks to give away to women who have lost their hair during their battle with cancer.
Once I said I was doing this I had friends tell me they wanted to join in. It takes 6 pony tails to make one wig and, lucky for me, I had 5 friends tell me they would do it! I am so excited about it because the six of us are doing something that can be a pain for us (especially in Texas heat) to help a woman recieve a wig to help her during a battle.
Here are the updates:
Me: I have 4-5 more inches to go. If I cut mine at my neck like I have 4 inches but a little longer than that is 5 inches.
Sarah Elizabeth: She has a couple more inches to go. She is predicting the big chop will take place in July.
Amber: She has a couple more inches to go. She wants to have shoulder length hair when she cuts her off.
Tiffany: She has a few more inches to go. She is also predicting the big chop for July.
Lindsay: She is on a mission to grow her out and also donate 8 inches of it. She is predicting her hair cut to take place in the fall sometime.
Brooke: (Lindsay's daughter) She has about 4 more inches to go before she gets her hair cut.
Stay tuned for more updates and posts by the girls when they get their hair cut.

There's Been A Change of Plans
While doing some research on Locks of Love I found out that they do not actually give children wigs. They actually charge the family for the wig according to the parent's income. The only way a child receives a wig for free is if they can get a sponsor to donate 1,000.00 to Locks of Love (LOL). LOL says the 1,000.00 is to pay for the processing of the hair and creating the actual wig. I understand that everything costs money but I feel that the wigs should be given away totally and completely free of charge.
That is when I stumbled upon Pantene Beautiful Lengths. I have heard Hilary Swank talk about it before but I never looked into it. Beautiful Lengths takes the hair and has the wigs made and they distribute them to "wig banks" for the American Cancer Society to give away. The main difference between the wigs with these two charities is: LOL says their wigs are custom made for their children and Beautiful Lenths makes wigs to be given away (they are not custom made).
I have decided to change my hair donation from LOL to Beautiful Lenths. Basically, the same rules apply except with Beautiful Lengths the donation only has to be 8 inches long so that's two inches shorter than I originally thought.
Also, according to the Beautiful Lengths website it takes approximately six ponytails of donated hair to make one wig. Anyone want to join me??

New 2010 Challenge
Guess what?! I have a new goal for 2010 and I'm pretty sure it's going to take all year (maybe longer) to do it but I'm pretty excited about it. No, I'm not going to run a marathon, lose 100 lbs, read a ton of books, or cook my way through some cookbook. This is something I have cried about, laughed about, been angered with, and down right mad at sometimes. HAIR! I have decided to grow my hair out and donate it to Locks of Love. I was reading the other day that 10 inches of thick hair can usually make 3-4 child size wigs for children with cancer depending on the length. If I were just growing my hair out I wouldn't do it. But to know that I can give a little girl hair during a crazy hard time in her life it makes it worth it.
Now, like most women I get bored with my hair several times a year so it should not shock anyone that in a one year time period I can have been known to have several hair styles.
I leave you now with some pictures of my different hair styles over the years...ENJOY!

This was right before we moved to Texas.
A couple of months of living in Texas.
This is a haircut I got after someone asked me if I was Chris' mom.
Before we moved to College Station.

Our first Aggie tail gating.

This is the most current picture of my hair from January 2010.
