Beyond Opinion by Ravi Zacharias

“Beyond Opinion: Living the Faith We Defend,” is an excellent resource for Christian apologetics. The book itself is very user friendly if the reader is using it for research purposes. The book is broke down in three parts then chapters within the parts. The chapters in the first part range in everything from Atheism to Eastern religions. Most of the chapters have a defined conclusion that reminds the reader of the main points of said chapter and also some application for their everyday life.

The reader of this book will be pleased to know that there are several ways in which to apply apologetics to their life. One chapter states, “Apologetics generally requires a thinking mind. But Christian apologetics demands more: a thinking head as well as a compassionate heart.” Each chapter consistently reminds the reader that Jesus came to love not hate those that were different than Him.

In the conclusion Zacharias approaches the reader as a friend he is having coffee with. While reading this chapter you sense that he is very passionate about his field but also very saddened by the people groups he writes about. The last sentence in this chapter is an excellent summary, “Such passion can only be carried out when it goes beyond opinion to conviction of the mind and soul.”
